OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

APPLICATIONS: sponge filter is designed for purifying aquarium water via mechanical and biological filtration. In addition, it aerates the water and enriches it with oxygen. The filter sponge is manufactured from non-toxic foam, resistant to the influence of fresh and marine aquarium water of varying chemical properties. The structure and large effective area of the sponge is perfect for colonisation by the beneficial micro-organisms involved in the process of biological filtration.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: dip the new filter in water and squeeze it thoroughly in order to get rid of the air from the sponge. Using the suction cups provided, place the filter in the desired spot, preferably on the lower part of one of the side glasses. Connect it to the air pump with a pipe. The flow rate can be regulated via the air input. If desired, additional filters can be used to increase the effectiveness of the filtration.
MECHANICAL FILTRATION: this is a purely physical process whereby particles suspended in the water are trapped in the porous structure of the filter sponge. It begins as soon as the filter is activated.
BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION: this process begins only after the micro-organisms colonise the sponge, creating the so-called “biofilm”. These beneficial bacteria start the process of nitrification and break down the organic substances. The process of colonising the entire surface of the filter takes several weeks and only after the filter matures, the biological filtration becomes fully effective.
CLEANING THE FILTER: when the sponge looks dirty, carefully remove it from the aquarium and squeeze it gently in water at room temperature until most of the dirt is removed. Sufficient bacteria should remain to quickly regenerate the biofilm.
WARNING! Do not boil the sponge or rinse in hot water as this will destroy all the beneficial bacteria. Chemical or thermal disinfection is required only in the event of pathogenic disease in the aquarium. The filter must then mature again.
IMPORTANT: when establishing a new aquarium or performing water changes it is advisable to use ANTYCHLOR to remove bactericidal chlorine and heavy metals from the new water, and ESKLARIN to protect living organisms from the harmful effects of tap water.
