Z inicjatywy firmy TROPICAL kilkudziesięciu pływających terapeutów wspiera edukację i leczenie dzieci z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu umiarkowanym, znacznym i głębokim, niepełnosprawnością ruchową oraz autyzmem.
Kolejnym etapem naszych badań i obserwacji będzie monitoring obiektywnych kryteriów świadczących o pozytywnych zmianach podczas sesji terapeutycznych z udziałem ryb (tj. zmniejszenie ciśnienia krwi, tętna, zwiększenie temperatury ciała) – dodaje Agnieszka Kazimierska-Bauerek.
', 'content1' => 'It’s been almost a year since a huge and impressive aquarium with Malawi fish was installed in the Special Schools Complex no. 41 in Zabrze. Thanks to TROPICAL’S initiative tens of underwater therapists can now help with education and treatment of kids with mild, moderate and severe mental disabilities, mobility impairment and autism. Throughout the whole year teachers had a chance to observe children’s natural reactions to the tank and changes in their behaviour as a result of the therapy. The outcomes are extremely optimistic.
The education and therapy include kids from the moment of disability identification until 21st year of age. It is a very specific group which needs appropriate impact methods. Thanks to the tank the school was able to increase the number of therapies involving animals. The kids had already been working with dogs and cats for many years before. “Classes in the room where the tank has been installed are immensely popular among our students. From the very moment of tank installation we try to investigate the impact of aquarium upon our kids’ health and mental condition. We are particularly interested in children’s natural reactions to the tank and changes in their behaviour as a result of the therapy. Previous year observations allow us to draw some preliminary conclusions. Autistic kids, who represent the majority of our students, are a very special group”, Agnieszka Kazimierska-Bauerek from school in Zabrze said.
The teachers noticed the reduction of anxiety in response to observing fish. It is probably due to the fact that fish’s activity is simple, repetitive and non-verbal, hence more accessible and predictable for the recipient. Fish draw students’ attention and help them stay focused. That is why teachers observed that with time kids’ attention span started to increase even in kids affected by serious deficits of this type. The growing feeling of responsibility and sense of duty are equally important. “Taking care of the tank also gave students the feeling of self-effectiveness, which in turn affected their self-esteem and the sense of having impact on the development of events and the sense of control, which disabled people often lack”, Agnieszka Kazimierska-Bauerek explained. Motivation for spontaneous interactions on kids’ own initiative and openness to actions without the need for further external stimuli were also enhanced by the work with fish.
“Our observations and experience coming from therapies involving animals prove their beneficial effect on psychological and social adjustment of our students. Another step of our research will be monitoring subjective criteria to prove positive changes during therapeutic sessions involving fish (such as reduced blood pressure, heart rate and the increase in body temperature”, Agnieszka Kazimierska-Bauerek added.
The tank installed in the Special Schools Complex no. 41 in Zabrze was sponsored by Diversa. Tropical arranged it and purchased all necessary equipment. For the past two years TROPICAL has also been sponsoring the therapies involving dogs and cats and supporting charity dogtrekking event organized by the school. “We are proud that we can help the school as the results are amazing”, Zbigniew Joniec, TROPICAL’s marketing expert explained. “The tank is well maintained and kids’ fascination with the underwater world has exceeded our wildest expectations. We are also glad to hear about teachers’ observations. They prove that aquaristics can have a wide range of applications, not only in child therapies. It is a common knowledge that observing that tank can have a calming and relaxing effect, hence proves perfect for people living under constant stress or having various psychological problems”, Zbigniew Joniec concluded.

', 'content2' => '', 'content3' => '', 'content4' => '', 'content5' => '', 'content6' => '', 'content7' => '', 'content8' => '', 'content9' => '', 'content10' => '', 'content11' => '', 'content12' => '', 'content13' => '', 'content14' => null, 'content15' => null, 'content16' => null, 'content17' => null, 'content18' => null, 'content19' => null, 'mcontent0' => 'Minął już prawie rok, od kiedy w Zespole Szkół Specjalnych nr 41 w Zabrzu stanęło imponujące, 540-litrowe akwarium z biotopem malawi.
